Fun with Measurement!

I LOVE TEACHING MEASUREMENT! And, yes, your child is learning about weight and capacity! I remember this being a third grade standard...  How amazing is that? We started the week by discussing weight and using our scale to measure the weight of different objects. There was a lot of great predictions and conversation! We used these charts to help us remember the difference between weight and capacity

The next day, we looked at 3 cups and predicted how many snap cubes would fit (the capacity). We tested our predictions to see the actual capacity. They felt like little scientists! Try asking your child what "data" is ;)

They colored the cups to match ours. Their predictions got better each time!

We shared our predictions with our shoulder buddies!
Last but not least....We predicted how many Starburst would fit into the small cup. Whoever had the prediction that was the closest to the actual capacity got to KEEP the Starburst! Oh boy, was this a competition.
AND THE WINNER WAS....ALYSSA! Her prediction MATCHED the actual capacity with 17 Starburst. I was so impressed! WAY TO GO ALYSSA!
